THE POWER OF ROTATION

Our bodies aren’t meant to eat the same thing every day... the same goes with supplements, herbs, and mushrooms.

That’s why everything at Adored Beast Apothecary is specifically formulated to support the rotational needs of the body. This includes our mushrooms. Each tincture serves a different part of the body - rotation is key to help the body support and derail disease.

FREE RADICALS

During the normal course of their lives, our pets encounter things called free radicals. They come from normal essential metabolic processes in the body like aging, or from external sources like exposure to X-rays, ozone, cigarette smoke, pollutants in the air, industrial chemicals, stress, processed food, and medication. These free radicals, if not controlled by antioxidants, cause oxidative stress.

OXIDATIVE STRESS & SLOWING THE AGING PROCESS

Oxidative stress can accelerate the aging process and contribute to the development of a number of different health conditions. Antioxidants work on the cellular level to neutralize or remove free radicals by donating an electron. The neutralizing effect of antioxidants helps protect the body

from that damaging oxidative stress. Turkey tail mushrooms contain a ton of antioxidants, including phenols and flavonoids. In fact, research shows that there are over 35 different phenolic compounds in turkey tail mushroom extract! Together, these compounds help the body fight free radicals and combat oxidative stress.

SUPPORTING GUT HEALTH

Turkey tail mushrooms are prebiotics. That means they feed the probiotics that help to encourage the proliferation of friendly bacteria in your animal’s gut. If you don’t feed those probiotics, they die. Approximately 80% of your pet’s (and your own) immune system calls the gut home. In order to maintain pristine gut health, probiotics and prebiotics are paramount. Both increase the ability of the immune system to fight off harmful bacteria and viruses that could cause trouble. Healthy gut bacteria is crucial in supporting every single metabolic function in the entire body. Thankfully, turkey tail contributes to the health of the gut microbiome. In fact, research shows that turkey tail extract modifies gut bacteria composition by increasing populations of beneficial bacteria like Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus while reducing potentially harmful bacteria, such as Clostridium and Staphylococcus.

ALLERGIES

Staphylococcus is very common bacteria associated with skin disease (you’ve likely heard the term staph infection). It’s commonly found on skin or in the nose. Often animals are put on antibiotics when they have allergies. This is not to address the allergy, but to address the secondary infection on the skin. Turkey tail can reduce Staphylococcus bacteria in the body. For dogs or cats experiencing itching due to allergies or hot spots, turkey tail mushrooms may help to soothe the itch and help prevent infection.

MAY HELP FIGHT CANCER, AID IN PREVENTION & FIGHT INFLAMMATION

Turkey Tail has been an approved natural therapy used alongside conventional treatments for cancer since the 1980s in Japan. Some of the key cancer-fighting components of the turkey tail mushroom are beta-glucans called polysaccharides. The ones we love are Polysaccharide-K

(PSK) and Polysaccharide Peptide (PSP).

• PSP works by supporting the body’s immune system to target and attack “oncoviruses” (tumour viruses).

•PSK extract also supports the immune system to help inhibit a number of cancer triggering mechanisms in the body. In fact, these polysaccharides are so powerful that researchers studying how they benefit dogs with aggressive hemangiosarcoma found that they deliver “antitumor and survival effects in a magnitude similar to that which is seen in standard chemotherapy.” Triterpenes in turkey tail mushrooms, used for their anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, hepatoprotective properties, have also been shown to have chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic properties as well.

IMMUNE SYSTEM SUPPORT

Turkey tail mushrooms are potent immune modulators. This means they can play an important role in regulating your animal’s (and your own!) immune system. Immune modulators stimulate or attenuate the immune system (whatever the body needs) and may help the body fight cancer, infection, or other diseases. This is about far more than boosting immunity. It’s about bringing the ratio of the different immune cells back into balance to enable the immune system to function correctly. For example, if your dog has an infection, boosting immunity can help fight off the bacteria that has led to their weakened state. That’s good. However, if your dog has an autoimmune disease (like allergies, Cushing’s, hypothyroid conditions, etc.), that means their immune system tends to overreact, so you want to keep it calm and balanced – to regulate it. Research shows that turkey tail mushrooms have some serious skill when it comes to regulating immunity, maintaining homeostasis and restoring healthy immune function.
